Scripture Union Daily Guide 14th February 2026 — Outline
God chooses who or what He wants to use to accomplish His purpose because He is sovereign. He chose Nebuchadnezzar and called him His servant not because he is righteous, but he is chosen to execute His judgment on His people because of their sin. God can use unexpected people or circumstances to correct us. God punishes sin no matter who commits it. We must be ready to accept God’s corrections.
Jeremiah wore a yoke which symbolizes bondage. It shows that the people must summit under the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar if they must live. But Hananiah the false prophet told the people what they wanted to hear even when they knew it was not the truth. Just as in Judah’s time, so is our society filled with false prophets who are telling people what their itching ears want to hear. As God warns Judah and their priests not to listen to false prophets, He also warns us today (Jeremiah 27:9-11).
Gods warns Zedekiah of the consequences of disobeying His command. He also warns us of the danger of disobeying His word or instructions (Jeremiah 27:12-18). Nebuchadnezzar invaded Judah first in 605BC and 597BC and carried away prominent people from Jerusalem, including articles from the temple of God and the king’s palace (Jeremiah 27:19-22; Daniel 1:1-2; 2 Kings 24:13-16).
